From cutting-edge app development for athletes, fashion and the solar industry, to eco-conscious clothing brands and even pickleball paddles, the Sunshine Coast and Noosa’s brightest young innovators are stepping up to the challenge.

The 2025 Generation Innovation (GI) Challenge officially kicked off with a launch event at Youi, with 11 young entrepreneurs selected to participate in the program designed to help turn their ideas into reality.

Now in its 11th year, Generation Innovation continues to empower people aged 15 to 21 to create businesses that not only spark innovation, but also tackle youth unemployment and inspire community change.

GI Board Director and inaugural GI Challenge winner Harry Thompson said this year’s group is one of the most exciting yet.

“I’m blown away by the creativity and determination these young entrepreneurs bring to the 2025 GI Challenge,” Mr Thompson said.

“Their ideas don’t just have potential – they have heart. From sports technology to sustainable fashion, these ventures are about solving real problems in ways that inspire others.”

The program began with Originate Day on 9 August, where participants connected with their mentors for the first time. Each entrepreneur is paired with a local business mentor, offering one-on-one guidance from day one.

GI Board Chair Shane Cunningham said the challenge is designed to nurture both the practical and creative sides of entrepreneurship.

“The GI Challenge is about giving young people the tools, knowledge and confidence to act on their ideas.”

“With their mentors beside them, they can explore what’s possible and take action to make it happen.”

Supported by their mentors, the young entrepreneurs will also take part in boot camps and a pitch event, culminating in the Pitch Night in October, where one entrepreneur will win a $10,000 prize package to help develop their business.

Youi has once again partnered with the challenge.

“Every year, we’re blown away by the incredible young talent that comes through the Generation Innovation Challenge. As a proud sponsor since 2020, we’re delighted to be able to support this incredible initiative, championing youth and innovation across the Sunshine Coast,” Youi’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Dave Annesley said.
